The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center Laboratory. This accreditation follows a recent on-site inspection of the lab facilities and evaluation of its methodology.
“Laboratory services are a fundamental part of the medical care and treatment process,” said Dr. Robert Chess, the laboratory’s Medical Director.
Director of Laboratory Services Debra Conrad added, “The tests we perform help guide clinical decision making. This accreditation means that the patients and care providers in our community can be confident in the quality of our practices and the veracity of the results.”
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program began in the 1960s and is recognized by the U.S. federal government as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
Southeastern Med CEO Ray Chorey said he’s proud of the laboratory’s performance, but not surprised that the facility was recognized for high achievement. “Dr. Chess, Debra Conrad and their team understand the profound impact lab information can have on diagnosis and care. We appreciate the support of our local physicians and their patients who use our laboratory services.”
