Childbirth Center

The Childbirth Center, located on the 1st floor at Southeastern Med is comprised of two areas: Labor and Delivery and the Mother-Baby Unit. Our department offers updated technology in a home-like, secure environment to help you prepare for the safe delivery of a healthy baby. Our philosophic approach to the care of our patients, called Family-Centered Care/Couplet Care, gives parents flexibility and promotes bonding. The Childbirth Center is a locked unit and maintains enhanced infant security measures.

Upon arrival you will be greeted by our friendly, caring and competent nursing staff. In addition to the Pediatricians on staff, our experienced Nurses are all trained in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP).

Immediately following delivery we offer skin-2-skin (Kangaroo Care) to enhance parent-infant attachment and bonding. We also promote rooming-in and Lactation (breastfeeding) support to further enhance your post-partum experience.

We also offer the services of one of the area’s few certified child passenger seat technicians to assist you with safe car seat use.

This unit is a Level 1 Perinatal Center, and participates in regionalized care that provides referrals and transports for women with high-risk pregnancies and/or babies born with serious conditions who require a higher level of care if necessary to Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus Children’s Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital as well as tertiary centers located in the Akron/Canton area.

The Childbirth Center provides education on a wide variety of topics for newly expectant parents including preparation for labor and birth, breastfeeding and infant care. In addition, the Resolve Through Sharing Program (RTS) offers support to parents who have lost a child as a result of a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

Please contact us at 740.439.8867 for more information or to arrange for a tour of our unit. We are here for you and will do our best to ensure that all your questions and concerns about caring for your newborn are addressed.
